BitterCon
Remember BitterCon? That's the con you go to when everybody else is off having fun at World Fantasy or something, and you have to stay home and work and nurse your grudges and cultivate your jealousy until it acquires a critical mass and...

Well, I don't know what happens, but something explosive, probably.

So here we are at BitterCon. But we'll show them! Surely you're doing something more fun than flying into Austin today!

As for me, I'm drinking a turbo-charged cup of coffee! And I'm at work! And later, I might drink another cup of coffee!!

Update: Okay, so far we've got hairbells, plumbing, academic conferences, windshield scraping, shaolin something-or-other, working, kinder wrangling, and lots of coffee drinking.

Beat that, World Fantasy-goers!

(that hairbells is not a typo for hairballs.)

Update II: [info]secritcrush just bid living at home with parents for a month. Beat that!

Update III: [info]clarkesworld has just posed an interesting question. Who would be GOH at BitterCon. And what would they sell in the dealer's room? Hmmmm.

Update IV: We have a bid for bitterest: [info]squirrel_monkey just had oral surgery. Nobody at WFC is having as much fun! Also, we have a bid for BitterCon GOH: Harlan Ellison. Though we might have to nominate somebody else to squeeze his boob.

Update V: At BitterCon, everybody gets to squeeze Harlan Ellison's boobs! Also, [info]velourmane has brought a bottle of vodka to BitterCon. It's after 4:00 on the east coast, so we can start drinking, right?

Update VI: The sun is waaaay past the yardarm here in Iowa, so we've got a good start on the bottle of vodka, the official alcoholic beverage of BitterCon. We also have a BitterCon banner! Go visit [info]clarkesworld to see (thanks for the update, livia_llewellyn). Also, we here at BitterCon are home getting lots of writing done while others are frolicking at WFC. Hell, if I hadn't partaken of the vodka, I'd have finished my novel by now...

Update Whatever: It's BitterCon all weekend here at BitterCon. The bitterness was alleviated for a while today by writers group, to which [info]velourmane brought actual BitterCon vodka. We ([info]charmingbillie, [info]velourmane, Lisa Bradley, and Chris East) bitterly critiqued each others' stories, and then in the car ride back to Iowa City bitterly dissed every single editor we know (of), except for Chris, who is an actual editor and a member of our group so doesn't count. We also felt sorry for all those poor people in Austin at WFC, who are probably nursing hangovers and developing whopping cases of con crud.

There is no con crud at BitterCon.

Sunday Morning Update We are not hung over here at BitterCon. We don't have a plane to catch. We have had plenty of sleep and are not hoarse from talking too much and are ready to head for the coffeeshop to write all day and drink pumpkin spice lattes. Some recent arrivals to BitterCon worry that they are late, but they should not worry, for no-one is ever late to BitterCon and everyone, everywhere, is always welcome to share in the bitterness.

We are having a much better time. Myself, I tied a bell to my hair so I can jingle all day long. Can they do that in Texas? I think not!

I'm at work too! Drinking my first cup of coffee! Man, is it bitter.

Although at this point, I'm just hoping we make it to WisCon next year; our moving plans are still up in the air, so it might happen before that. Which would suck, because I can't imagine us being able to go very often from now on.

I'm off to the kindermines, where the kids are tough and only take one-minute naps.

To prepare, I am first downing a vat of coffee, because NO ONE can enter the kindermines unprepared.

And woo! Maybe I'll get dressed next.

But today? Today?? TODAY??? OH I AM SO VERY BITTER!!!!!!!

Except for lunchtime. Meeting a friend for lunch, so I'll be a little less bitter then.

But after lunch? After??? AFTER?????

Here via [info]jlundberg - I didn't realize there was such a thing as BitterCon, probably because I was too busy being BITTER. I'm currently at work, coasting on my second cup of coffee while I contemplate the ending of my current WIP, an erotic cowboy story. Do they have cowboy pr0n in Austin? Probably. But I don't think anyone at that OTHER con has time to sit down and write some quality sexxoring scenes, what with all those panels and parties. Silly con-goers! And I have to admit, my cowboy pr0n is so hot, it would probably set all of Texas on fire. I'm in flame as I'm typing this - honest!

Dude, I totally bought an Early Membership to BitterCon! With a Guest Membership for my Miasma of Envy, so it can wander around on its own if it likes.

I am at work without having eaten anything yet, and my near-starvational state is interacting with my BitterCon attendance to create a nova-like reaction of irritability and moroseness. It's great! Better than puppies!

And I'm working over the weekend, too, which makes it better than TEN puppies!

I'm rather mundanely bitter. Just sitting in my office at work, watching kids get tossed out of class and sent to the dean's office. My big project is counting the hours until I'm free to drive the 50 miles I need to get back home.

Maybe I should set up a table in the BitterCon dealer's room. Hmm... who do we have as GoH?

Ohhhh, so jealous this weekend. But hey, I just got back into the graduate library here after a month and a half of waiting for my new student ID card, and hey, I bet they don't have a cool library like that in Texas...oh, wait, no, damn it, there's a really good university in Austin. But I bet they wouldn't have let me in the library, there... (At least that's what I'll have to tell myself!)

I, too, am here through [info]jlundberg. Man, does he get around at these cons. I was so busy being bitter I forgot to pre-register for Bittercon. But I'll buy a membership at the door.

What they don't have in Texas:
1) lunch in a cafeteria with first graders that include my daughter at 10:45am, all talking at once
2) a 5 mile walk with fall color and country fresh air in a warm down vest
3) my Mouse King story
4) a cuckoo clock
5) a woodstove with fire

Bittercon is turning out so much better. But I'll leave the office work to others...good thing this Bittercon has lots of panels to choose from.
